Day 3 in Hong Kong and we finally ventured across the bay to Kowloon, the chunk of city opposite Hong Kong proper. We had a big lineup for the day, and it did not disappoint. Although it was gray and cloudy to start the day, the weather was warm and it never rained.
To get over to Kowloon, we rode on the famous "Star Ferry", the ubiquitous green and white ferry that crosses the bay every ten to fifteen minutes. Doing so gives great views of both Hong Kong proper and Kowloon. Once on the mainland our first stop was the Hing Fat restaurant, where we enjoyed some delicious Chinese food that was a tad bit overpriced.
After lunch we went to the Hong Kong Science Museum, which had good ratings and reviews. It was a lot of fun, although much of what we saw were things we had already learned plenty about over the years. Still, it was a great museum, and we especially enjoyed the Hall of Mirrors.
Later we went wandering along Granville Street, doing some shopping and seeing Kowloon. After we had our fill of this area we took a taxi up to Tung Choi Street, where we did some shopping in the street market and hawker's area, including the "Ladies Market". We came back with some treasures.
For dinner that night Kelsey treated us to a wonderful steak dinner at Morton's, in the Sheraton Hotel. It was absolutely delicious, and eating with a view of Hong Kong's skyline at night was pretty incredible. After dinner we were so stuffed we came back to the hotel and crashed out. On to Ocean Park tomorrow! Stay tuned. |
