While in Tad Lo, we stayed in a resort called the Tad Lo Ecolodge, and one of their big claims was they had 3 rescued Elephants on the property that got to hang out and live and eat in exchange for ferrying tourists around. In the afternoons they go down to the river where they clean off (with the help of their Laotian keepers) and provide a show for the tourists, before trundling off into the bush to go sleep for the night. We of course stayed there and snapped pictures just like all the other tourists around, and the next morning got to take a ride on one of them for an hour through the jungle.
