Mataram
The largest city on the island of Lombok, the capital city of Mataram is a beautiful and authentic Indonesian city. Located at the mouth of a river and stretching into the plains on the center of the island, Mataram is actually the capital of the whole West Nusa Tenggara province, which includes all of Lombok, the Gilis, nearby Sumbawa, and a smattering of other small islands. The city is a virbant and bustling city, with lots of friendly people and beautiful houses, and it is a great place to explore around and experience local Indonesian culture.

Sayang
A quiet suburb on the northeastern fringe of Mataram. We stayed in a beautiful hotel here called the Villa Sayang. It is run by a real friendly local woman named Rosa, and we had a perfect day and night here. Sayang is near the edge of the coastal plains, so the foothills that rise and eventually change into mountains are close by and make a very beautiful backdrop to the whole scene.
Senggigi
One of the main beach towns on the island of Lombok, this is a short stretch of restaurants, hotels, and businesses strung along the main road between Mataram and the Bangsal Harbor. There is no real town center or square, and instead the "town" is nothing but a series of developed bays separated by some rocky points.
