Wolfman Panel & Ruins
Wolfman Panel
One of the central zones for Ancestral Puebloan settlement in southeast Utah was the area located around Butler Wash and Comb Ridge. Here, a floruishing civilization of hunter gatherers existed roughly 800 years ago in the canyons of the Comb and the tributaries of Butler Wash that cut into it. And today, many of their ruins, artifacts, and rock art survive in those same canyons.
Down at the southern end of Butler Wash, just a scant mile north of Highway 163. On one side of the wash is a decent panel of rock art named for the engimatic figure that has gigantic claws for his hands. There are a handful of fiigures and shapes as well, as well as some bullet holes from some friendly turn-of-the-century cowboys. Getting there isn't too bad; there is a road right to the top of the rim, and from there a faint trail leads down the bottom of the wash and the panel. |
