For our second day in Hong Kong, we decided to go for a hike. Using a website I had found during our HK research, I found a trip that looked to be a bit of a workout, but still within our realm of doability. It involved trekking up one stream, traversing over and up another stream, traversing to another trail, and then up and over the summit ridge and back down to the city.
To get to the trailhead we had to take the MRT to Sai Wan Ho station, and then catch a bus to Tai Tam Reservoir. From there we started hiking on a nice path around the aforementioned reservoir.
We left the trail and headed up the lower part of the Sheung Nam stream, scrambling up some large sliding waterfalls and splashing through small pools. After a while we hit another water storage reservoir, which was quite beautiful. A quick trail around the lake and we hiked up the upper part of the Sheung Nam stream, which was much narrower and steeper than the lower part of the stream.
After that, which was all fun and games, we set out to hike the Wilson Trail from the Parkview Apartment Complex to Quarry Bay. Along the way we had to climb a small peak, and then drop down to a saddle, only to climb another peak, and finally drop down, down, down down to Quarry Bay. Needless to say, it was quite a death march. All told, we hiked about 12 km, and put a total elevation difference of 1200 meters, and it took us about 6 hours. Lots of fun but it was a lot of work and we got back to the hotel absolutely bushed. Stay tuned, more to come!
